Get to Know The Lovely Hyde Farm Estate, SW12
Hyde Farm Estate is a suburban area within the south London district of Balham. Unlike the rest of Balham, the locality is entirely within the London Borough of Lambeth. Hyde Farm Estate is bounded by the Emmanuel Road to the south, Hydethorpe Road to the north, Redbourne Road to the east and Cavendish Road to the west.
The estate was once a large medieval field located at the southern edge of Clapham parish. In 1587 Richard Martyn bought it and then sold it to t Emmanuel College, Cambridge. The Hyde Farm Estate was created between 1896 and 1916. Nowadays the area is situated between Tooting Bec Common to the south, Cavendish Road to the west and mansions on Grove Road and Thornton Road.
Currently the site between Redbourne Road and Haverhill Road is designated as Conservation area. The location has also been subject to an Article Four Direction due to the uniform appearance of the houses.
